Some Geat Golf Tips

by Lee MacRae

Here are some great tips to help improve your game from tee-off to the final hole.

You're driving will improve if, before you swing, you draw a mental picture of:

1. Your position at the top of your swing

2. The clubhead swinging through the impact area

3. Where you want your club to finish up [the best way to do this is to pick out a target on the horizon and swing your club toward it]

These images represent the three keys to any good swing: the backswing, the impact, and the follow-through.

You'll generate a lot of power if you forget about building up the muscles in your body and concentrate instead on whipping the hips. Look at golfing legend Gary player. He's only 5'7" tall, but he hits the ball a long way by moving his hips as fast as possible for right to left in the downswing. But not so fast that he loses control of the swing. The idea is to have the hips moving to the left, where they'll open naturally. If you keep your head behind the ball through impact, you'll form a sort of human catapult that will send your ball soaring.

A common cause of tension lies in the grip. An improper grip, or one that is too tight, creates tension that continues up the arms, through the shoulders, down the body and to the legs is sure to wreck your swing. Tension is the greatest robber of motion. The result is a hitting action rather than a swinging motion. A correct grip can relieve the pressure; however, it's still possible to have a correct grip and hold on too tightly (tension).

Work on these tips and make sure you tee off with a positive mindset. The more you practice and implement what you learn, the more confidence you will gain in your ability to hit it straight and long. And watch your scores begin to plummet!

Quick Golf Ideas

Pivot Pitching
Eliminate chunks and skulls by using your body and not your hands to move the club. Try keeping your arms glued to your body in the backswing and downswing.

The overall contour of the green can be assessed from 50-100 yards out. It's a fact that a ball will roll away from mountains and towards the ocean; so if there is a hill near the green the ball will roll away from it. If there is a lake near the green the ball will roll toward it.

Use Your Body For Power
Every good golfer knows that power comes from the body, not the arms. To learn to power the club with your body instead of your arms and hands, put the club behind the ball at address, with your body in a dead-stop position. Without taking a backswing, try to drag the ball into the air. If you're a player who uses his or her hands to control the club, you'll probably struggle at first. However, you'll quickly find that once you start moving the club with your body, you'll begin to get the ball in the air more consistently. This helps you turn fully through the ball on the downswing.

Snap It For More Power
The powerful tension built up in the backswing needs to be unleashed into the ball. Before the club finishes at the top, the body must begin moving toward impact with the arms and club lagging behind (the body should drag the arms and club, not vice versa). The unwinding body should stop sharply before contact, whipping the arms and club powerfully into impact.

Some Golf Tips For You

by Lee MacRae

Read along as we offer up some great tips to improve your game of golf.

Warm up and stretch your muscles before you tee off. If you have ever been to a live pro golf event you will notice that the golfers don't just arrive at the course and immediately head to the tee box. Instead they go to the driving range, stretch for awhile and then hit some balls. It is a fact that when your muscles are warmed up they perform better and in turn positively influence your golf swing. So try to arrive at the golf course a few minutes early to loosen up and take a few swings.

When addressing the ball with your driver, you must be loose and relaxed. Do not tighten up over the golf ball. It is important to waggle the club back and forth a few times in order to create some flow to start the golf swing. This action will promote proper rhythm and tempo.

Finish towards the target. Pick a spot on the ground that lines up with your target and from your address stretch your wood towards it. If done correctly, your arms should form a V shape with both arms fully extended. Finish the swing over your left shoulder. Do you have a tendency to bend your left arm early. That also will retard distance; keep your V as long as possible before it bends at the finish of your swing and you will find youself getting much more distance.

We hope these simple tips help you to drive the ball straighter and farther. And that will happen if you take them with you to the driving range and work on them diligently. Use them whenever you meet the specific situation on the faiway, the bunker or on the putting green and see your success happen.

Let's Talk About Golf

Turning hands counterclockwise on the shaft (weak grip), promotes a left-to-right flight of the ball (slice). Turning hands clockwise (strong grip) promotes a right-to-left flight of the ball (hook).

Eyes And Arms
On the putting green, the eyes and the forearms should be parallel to the target line at address. This will encourage the putter to track on the proper path without manipulation during the stroke. If the eyes and/or the forearms are misaligned, it's impossible to make a putt without compensating during the stroke. Notice how poor my alignment is at far leftthis setup is common and bad.

The target is not always the center of the fairway or green. To setup the next shot the target could be to the left or right of the fairway. Ball flight differs between players. If a player fades his tee shot, the target would be to the left of center of the fairway. If he draws the ball, the target would be right of center. One good point here is to always aim away from trouble on the course whenever possible. If there is trouble on the right, tee on the right side of the teeing area. Do the opposite if the trouble is on the left. In other words, tee the ball on the side the trouble is.

Don't grip the club too tightly. A tight grip inhibits a smooth swing and follow-though. Also, keep the grips on your clubs in good condition. Worn grips force you to hold the club too tightly. Replace the grips on your clubs as they get worn and smooth. When first learning the grip, keep a club around the house and practice gripping and regripping the club a few minutes each day. Remember to keep fingers secure and arms relaxed.

Australia's finest stand in the way of Woods

It has already developed into Australia versus Tiger Woods here at the WGC CA Championship in Miami, but even that nation of shrinking violets may not be bullish about their chances this weekend. Geoff Ogilvy and Adam Scott are no mugs, but then you do not necessarily need to be for Woods to make you look like one.
